Monaco Grand Prix: Three-Car Crash on Lap 1 Brings Out Red Flag

Start-Line Collision Involves Sergio Perez, Haas Drivers

Monaco Grand Prix Halted, Schumacher Admits to Off-Line Error

Monaco, May 28, 2023 - The Monaco Grand Prix was abruptly halted during its opening lap on Sunday after a major collision involving three cars at the start line. The incident, which occurred at the famous Sainte Devote corner, saw Sergio Perez's Red Bull collide with both Haas cars driven by Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher.

The impact was severe, with Schumacher's car flipping over and crashing into the barriers. Both Magnussen and Schumacher were uninjured in the crash, while Perez retired from the race with damage to his car.

The red flag was immediately waved, bringing the race to a standstill. The safety car was deployed to allow marshals to clear the track of debris and repair the barriers.

Mick Schumacher, speaking after the incident, described the crash as "super weird." He admitted that he went slightly off-line at the exit of the Swimming Pool section of the track, onto a wet patch of asphalt. This caused him to lose control of his car and collide with the barrier.

The incident is being investigated by race officials.
